The brush is not just used to layer your paint it is vital for the process of painting. The number 9 brush is good for cross hatching, stippling, vertical marks as well. Then there is the flat brush which gives you a wash look, using the corner of this brush you can make various strokes, lines, dots and smudges. Experiment with different strokes on your own and add brushes that you choose to make it your painting.
Dry blush is another interesting and fun way to paint. Do the color of your choice and load your brush then use a cloth to dab the brush onto and then approach your painting and you can lay with the top of your brush strokes lightly onto the painting. You can do crosshatching marks, blotting marks, wash marks, work it out and see what new ideas you come up with.
