You have finished you monochrome painting and now you want to go to the next level, lets say you did a landscape. The painting in monochrome is dark grays, now you will mix green or even yellow ochre and lay it on top and beside the monochrome, see the transparent wash you have just created. Always remember the lighter the tones the more the white of the paper will show through.
